SEKOLATANI: Penguatan Kapasitas Petani Perempuan untuk Produksi Hasil Pertanian Berdaya Saing Ekspor
The SEKOLATANI program is acommunity service initiativedesigned to enhancethe capacity and independenceof women farmersin Kombongan Hamlet,Jember, in implementingexport-quality organic farmingpractices. This interventionwas motivated bythe farmers' limited knowledge ofsustainable agriculture andtheir significant relianceon chemical-based inputs.The methodology employed aneducational-participatoryapproach, utilizing counseling,training, and hands-on practice.A learning bydoing method wasspecifically applied tothe production of organic pesticides from local natural ingredients (e.g., neem leaves, lemongrass, and galangal). The results indicateda significant increasein participants' understanding, skills,and awareness regarding sustainableland management andeco-friendly pesticide production.Furthermore, the program successfully fosteredmotivation among womenfarmers to activelycontribute to household welfareand the localeconomy. The SEKOLATANIprogram demonstrates that community-based educationand mentoring serveas an effectivemodel for transforming agriculture toward more sustainable, adaptive, and gender-inclusive practices.
