Information Technology (IT) refers to technological advancements used to process and disseminate information. Modern IT has yielded benefits across all aspects of life, including in the development of business and communication. Unfortunately, the utilization of IT remains predominantly the domain of male entrepreneurs; the number of female entrepreneurs using IT to grow their businesses is still low. This book explains how female MSME entrepreneurs adapt to IT advancements. Female entrepreneurs on Kangean Island and in Paciran, Lamongan (East Java), exhibit different approaches to adapting to IT developments. Unlike their male counterparts, some women feel they do not need technology to grow their businesses, whereas others build their enterprises around information technology. In Kangean, for instance, entrepreneurs have even successfully developed Android-based applications to support their business operations. The book also outlines perspectives on government-fostered industries and discusses the roles played by “kyai” (Islamic scholars) and “pesantren” (Islamic boarding schools) in supporting the halal industry program and assisting entrepreneurs in adapting to technological advancements.
